Scotland's football fans are in for a treat this summer as the Scottish Football Museum in Glasgow unveils an immersive virtual reality exhibition. This groundbreaking initiative, developed in collaboration with researchers at the University of Glasgow, promises to revolutionize the way fans engage with the nation's rich football heritage. The VR experience, titled 'The Treasures of Scottish Football: A Virtual Reality Experience', will showcase a curated collection of iconic trophies, shirts, and artifacts from Scottish football history. From the oldest national football trophy in the world, the original Scottish Cup from 1874, to Kenny Dalglish's football jersey from the 1978 World Cup, and the match ball used in the Scottish Qualifying Cup Final of 1898, visitors will be able to explore these treasures in astonishing detail. The exhibition is a testament to the power of extended reality technology, developed by the University's Realities and Immersion Glasgow (RIG) center and the Wonder platform by University spin-out Infinite Muse. It's a unique opportunity for fans to 'hold' and examine these historic objects in a specially-curated virtual gallery, bringing the story of Scottish football to life in a way that was previously unimaginable. The exhibition will be located in the 'Hall of Fame' at Scotland's National Stadium, adding to the museum's already impressive collection. The project is a collaboration between the Scottish Football Museum, the University of Glasgow, and curators at the museum, with support from Alzheimer's UK. It's a win-win situation, as the experience will not only benefit football fans but also contribute to a good cause. Professor Pauline Mackay, Co-Director of RIG and a Co-Founder of Infinite Muse, expressed her pride in the project, emphasizing the importance of sharing the extraordinary story of Scottish football with the world. Neal Ross, Chief Executive at the Scottish Football Museum, shared his excitement about the project, highlighting its potential to take the museum's treasures to a global audience during the World Cup fever. This VR exhibition is a testament to the innovative spirit of Scottish institutions and their commitment to preserving and sharing the nation's football heritage in exciting new ways.
